John Addison “Johnny Nick” Nicholson, 82, of Paw Paw died Thursday, September 26, 2013 at home with his loving wife at his side. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Compton. Burial will be in Wyoming Township Cemetery, Paw Paw. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. on Monday, September 30th, 2013 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 398 Church Road, Compton.

John was born on May 13, 1931 in Waterman to Charles and Edith (Heath) Nicholson. John joined the Air Force on November 29, 1951. After returning home, he built a thriving Construction/Excavation business. He married Phyllis J. LeMar (who preceded him in death in 1971). He married Lucille Smith Full on December 12, 1973. Many knew him as “Big Hammer.” Every day he looked forward to work and thought of it as more like play than a job. John was always willing to help others whether a friend or stranger. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife Lucy Smith Full Nicholson at home. Two sons; John (Sue) Nicholson and Jared (Dawn) Nicholson both of Paw Paw. Three daughters: Lisa Hoebing of Malta, IL; Linda (Chuck) Sellers and Clara (Wally) DeLong both of Paw Paw. One brother; Collin Nicholson of Sycamore, IL and one sister, Florence Randall, of Marion, IA. Fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jeff Nicholson; one son-in-law, Jeffrey Hoebing; one sister Marion Zinzi, and one brother Charles Nicholson.

  1. Farewell Johnny. You are the best friend I ever had. I miss you like a brother and always will remember you. we had some great times together, and I now have some wonderful memories and stories to tell. You will live forever in our minds and hearts. Thank you for being you.

  2. We have lost a very dear friend. Johnny Nick was one of the best men we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He made us feel so welcome when we moved to Paw Paw. We loved him very much and he and Lucy will always be in our thoughts and prayers. Rest in Peace dear friend.
