Darrell “Red” Furar

Darrell “Red” Furar, 65, of Compton, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at his home following a courageous four-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Darrell was born May 24, 1956, in LaSalle, the son of Frank and Shirley (Blanchard) Furar. He married Kristen Humiston on September 15, 2007, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rochelle.

Darrell was a 1975 graduate of Mendota Township High School. He worked for over forty years for the BNSF Railway and its predecessor Burlington Northern Railroad. Everyone on the railroad knew Darrell. If you worked with him, you never forgot him. Darrell was very meticulous and kept track of everything. Some of his favorite things to work on were his model railroad, Harley Davidson motorcycle, vehicles, his yard, and his home. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. Darrell talked to everyone and never met a stranger.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Kristen Furar of Compton; two children, Matt Furar and Amy Jo Furar of Mendota; stepdaughter, Heather (Bryan) Kearney of Bettendorf, IA; granddaughter, Lydia Kearney; two brothers, Paul (Lynn) Furar of LaMoille and Dave (Melissa) Furar of Mendota; a sister, Jerene Furar of Compton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Darrell is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Shirley Furar; a sister, Deanna Furar; and a brother, Dale Furar.

Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Torman Funeral Home, 510 Flagg St. in Paw Paw.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, December 3, 2021, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 236 Kelley Drive, in Rochelle with Father Randy Fronek officiating.     I’m so sorry for your loss. Growing up in Compton it was impossible not to know everyone else who lives there. Hugs and prayers to all the family.
