Chalden F. “Chal” Challand, 79, of Steward, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. Chal was born October 17, 1941 in DeKalb, the son of Wilbur and Evelyn (Rambo) Challand. He married Donna Pullin on November 9, 1963 in Rochelle.

Chal was born and raised on a farm and continued to be a farmer his whole life. He was an active member of the Paw Paw United Methodist Church. Chal loved doing puzzles, he would often frame his favorites and hang them around the house. He loved taking trips to Disney World, mostly with the family but a few times with just his wife, Donna. Chal was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and father-in-law who will be missed by all who knew him.

Chal is survived by his wife, Donna, of Steward; three children, Stephen (Stephanie) Challand of Gurnee, IL, Mark (Kari) Challand of Steward, and Dawn Challand of Dixon; three grandchildren, Matthew (Ashley) Thorson, Megan (A.J.) Wiley, Austin (Christina) Challand; three great-granddaughters, Amelia, Raegan, and Paityn; three siblings, Joe Challand, Evelyn “Hope” Challand, and Sharon (Richard) Rhea; brother-in-law, Mike (Karry) Pullin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Carol Pullin.

Cremation care has been provided. A memorial funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at the United Methodist Church, 370 Wiley Avenue, in Paw Paw with Pastor Dana Cox officiating.     Your message *My deepest sympathy goes out to Donna, Steve, Mark, Dawn and their families.. Chal was a special man. His love for Donna, his family and church definitely was shown all the time. He will be missed. In my prayers.
