It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cornel A. (Fruit) Recknor, also known affectionately as “Corny,” who peacefully transitioned on Friday, March 15, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was 77 years old.

Cornel spent his entire life in the Rollo area, deeply ingrained in its community. Born into farming, he farmed himself, worked for Farm Supply, and served as the Paw Paw Township tax assessor. However, his true passion lay in nurturing his community. Whether tending to Rollo Park since its formation in 1976, running numerous softball leagues and tournaments, organizing the annual pig roast alongside his dear friend Burdie, or cheering on local sports teams, Cornel’s dedication to Rollo was unwavering.

A loyal Cubs fan and dedicated sports enthusiast, Cornel also found joy in attending hundreds of high school basketball games, dragging Susan to Wisconsin to watch his grandsons play basketball and football, refereeing basketball games and keeping score at Indian Creek High School basketball games. His Wednesday nights were reserved for the camaraderie of his bowling league at the Sandwich bowling alley.

Above all, Cornel was a devoted husband to Susan (Gochee) for 50 years, a loving father to Cory, Charles, and Teresa, and a pillar of support for his extended family. His legacy of integrity, hard work, and family devotion will endure through the lives of those he touched.

A celebration of life will be held in May, with details to be announced on www.TormanFuneralHome.com as well as the Torman Funeral Home Facebook page.

Cornel is survived by his wife, Susan; children, Cory (Connie), Charles (Prim), and Teresa (Nick); brothers, Paul (Janet), Steve (Linda), David (Mary), and Gerald (Chris). He is also survived by grandchildren, Jessica, Marissa, Tristan, Trey, and Alex and great-grandchildren, Lexi, Eli, Roman, and Antonio Jr.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Cornel’s cherished Rollo Park are appreciated. Please make checks payable to Rollo Park and mail to 1760 Whitman Road, Earlville, IL 60518.
