Lola F. Pierce

Lola F. Pierce (nee Distin), 97, formerly of Paw Paw, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 at DeKalb County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born to Russell and Gladys (nee Moeller) Distin on October 27, 1919. She was one of six children.

A graduate of Dixon High School, Lola married Dorrance A. Pierce of Paw Paw on April 8, 1939. She was a homemaker, a loving, caring, and giving mother and grandmother, and an active member of the community. As a long-time member of the Paw Paw United Methodist Church, she was a Sunday school and VBS teacher for many years as well as being active in the WSCS.

Lola was a member of the Lee County Home Extension for 71 years, earning Homemaker of the Year in 2005. She served the community as an election judge, 4-H Leader, and PTA president.

Lola was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Dorrance; a son, Calvin in 2007; her 3 brothers; her 2 sisters and their spouses; and all her in-laws except for a sister-in-law, Lila Distin.

She is survived by her sons, Arthur (Ginny) of King George, VA, Donald (Judy) of Paw Paw, and Norman (Cindy Waldschmidt) of Hinckley; daughter, Elaine Johnson (Leonard) of Waterman, Janice Wolfe of Lakeland, FL; and Regina Walker-Rumish (Tom) of Sandwich; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren and another one expected in June.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 A.M. Monday, February 20, 2017 at the Paw Paw United Methodist Church, 370 Wiley Avenue, in Paw Paw with Pastor Glen Stewart officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will follow services in Wyoming Township Cemetery in Paw Paw.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lola’s memory may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, Paw Paw United Methodist Church, or the charity of your choice.
