Betty Louise Schmidt

Betty Louise Schmidt, 92, of Mendota, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017 in her home with hospice care. Betty was born November 1, 1924 to Charles and Bertha (Boykin) Bradford in Keenes, IL. She married Harold J. Schmidt on February 20, 1944 in Dixon, IL.

Betty graduated from Troy Grove High School in 1942. She retired from Hart Carter. Betty liked going to auctions, garage sales, and putting together puzzles. She enjoyed Blue Grass Open Stage, flying in jet planes, and McDonald’s Mocha Frappes. She cherished spending time with her good friend, Norma Buster.

Betty is survived by six children; two sons, Gary (Mary Jo) Schmidt of Missouri and Robert J. (Carol) Schmidt of Oglesby; four daughters, Dixie (Duane) Link of Kentucky, Joan (Norm) Peterson of Earlville, Susan (John) Nicholson of Paw Paw, and Cindy (Rick) Brinker of South Carolina; eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her sister, Ruth (Bill) Jacobs of Sycamore; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Harold, on May 28, 2001; three brothers, Ralph, Jim, and Archy Bradford; one son, Edward J. (Joe) Schmidt; a grandson, Tom Schmidt, and a son-in-law, Robert Shirley.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A private graveside service will be held at Prairie Repose Cemetery in Amboy with Pastor Bill Clark officiating.
